How to know it’s time to invest in your business

You may have noticed this beautiful painting in, like, every photo we’ve ever posted of our studio.

It’s an original, created by one of our favorite local artists, and we knew the painting was worth every penny and then some, but it was a big investment for us early on in our business. We obsessed over whether to purchase it for weeks.

How can we spend this much money right now on a non-necessity?
Think of all the other things we need that we could spend that money on…

But then we realized something:
We’re a design studio. We show up in this physical space every single day for the sole purpose of making beautiful things. The inspiration that feeds us is like the lifeblood of our business.

We knew that having this painting hanging in our studio would inspire us to create the kind of unique and vibrant work we were dreaming about.

So we bought it. And it has inspired us immensely, but it’s done more than that. It’s made us feel like a more legitimate business. We knew something was important to us, and instead of thinking about what other people would do, or having to rationalize it with an ROI, we made the decision.

We are the decision-makers of this business, and its success is in our hands.

We’re definitely not suggesting that everyone should go out and buy a painting for their business.

But if there’s an investment you’re not making because you’re stuck in the same mindset we were, it may be holding back your success.
